We take being an easy company to work with very seriously and are constantly developing our customer support to offer more services, free, to customers.

Can I add new devices to an existing network?

Yes, you can add additional lights to your emergency lighting system at any time, provided you have enough capacity on the Lux Intelligent emergency light testing system.  See "How many lights can I network on each loop and panel?"

Adding additional lights to the network is a two step process.  Any additional lights added to a live system will require the new lights to be connected to the data loop.  This is initially achieved by isolating the data loop and breaking in to it at an appropriate point (normally a light close to the one(s) to be added.  The integrity of the loop should be maintained by running a new connection to the new light and then in turn, running a data connection from the new light to the next light in the existing loop.

At the panel, the 'search' feature should be used to find the new light, allocate a new address (the next free address, bearing in mind addresses do not need to be allocating sequentially as the lights as wired).  A prompt for an autolearn will be made and after completion, text, zone information and test group numbers can be added.  The new light is then on the system.  The panel aspects of the configuration can also be achieved using the PC based configuration tool software.

How do I program the panel/network?

Once the luminaires are installed and powered up, the system can be commissioned.  With simple small installations, a panel can be up and running very quickly by using the key pad to allocate the emergency lights descriptive text and auto learn them on to the system.  The process is accelerated thanks to the fact that the panels come ready configured with a default testing schedule that meets all requirements of BS EN 5266 code of practice.

There is also a Config Tool software package which can be used to configure the system, and is useful on larger installations.  The Config Tool also has the added benefit of enabling you to save a backup of your system configuration, should you need to reset the system at some point in the future.

Can I network Lux Intelligent panels?

Yes, Lux Intelligent panels can be quite easily networked by two core cables and the addition of easily installed networking cards to each panel.  The network can be a simple radial connection, or as a loop to introduce additional security of performance of the network.  The choice of network is governed by which network cards are installed.

What are the advantages of using LAN devices to network my panels?

Lux Intelligent panels can be connected to their own network by installing dedicated network cabling between the panels.  However, the cost of doing this can be high.

Connecting the Lux Intelligent panels to the local area network on a site provides the most cost effective means of been able to access all panels from anywhere across the installation.  It does not require any special cable routing, and can be accomplished by plugging the LAN device into the nearest LAN connection point via a standard ethernet cable. This means there is no limit to distance between panels. 

The panel then connected in turn to the LAN network via a serial to Ethernet converter, available as part of the Lux Intelligent range of support peripherals.

What new addressable lights do you offer?

We currently offer a wide range of emergency lighting luminaires for use with the Lux Intelligent system.  These include Exit Sign Products, Bulkhead Products, commercial lighting products and LED based products.

We are constantly looking to offer more of the latest LED technology in the form of addressable luminaires.  Some of the latest products include lighting panels ideal for suspended ceilings, available as standard mains only luminaires, emergency luminaires and even available with dimming controls.  The use of LEDs allows the end user to exploit the extended life of LEDs.
