Can I use Lux Intelligent with ANY emergency light?

Almost.  In most instances, implementing Lux Intelligent is achieved by simply installing the Lux Intelligent PLU Module into the luminaire to be monitored.  As the system monitors the actual light source, in some instances, an additional step to interface to the light source may be required.  There are very few cases where it is not possible to implement the system, and this would tend to be around luminaires not ideally suited to emergency lighting usage.

Are Lux Intelligent PLU Modules required to be fitted to our lights?

Yes, the Lux Intelligent panels can only communicate through the PLUs and without them, the monitoring and testing features cannot be achieved.

How does the PLU Module work?

The PLU Module interfaces with the light fitting through some re-arranging of the standard emergency wiring.  It monitors the permanent mains supply to the light as well as being able to interrupt this connection.  This is essential in ensuring that the PLU can instigate mains fail conditions.

It is also connected to the internal rechargeable battery terminals (where fitted), to allow the panel to be aware of the voltages during charging and discharging cycles.

Finally, the PLU also monitors the actual light output from the luminaire via the it’s glass fibre.

The PLU contains information specific to the light fitting, which it communicates to the Lux Intelligent panel, which allows the panel to determine if the light fitting is functioning correctly, i.e. Maintained or non-maintained luminaire, number and type of rechargeable cells within the luminaire.  It also has a ‘lighting threshold’ value set, the point at which the panel determines if the light source is on or off.  All this information is set either during commissioning, or at the time of manufacture/re-engineering of the light fitting.

An important point to remember is that in the event of losing all the addressable aspects of the system, a light with a PLU installed will behave just like a normal emergency light fitting.

Do I need to buy new addressable lights?

No, if you are looking to add Lux Intelligent as a testing solution to your existing emergency lighting system, you do not need to replace your existing luminaires.

In order to use your own, or third party lights , with Lux Intelligent each light must be fitted with a PLU Module.  These modules can be installed by Advanced, or alternatively by your own electricians.

Lux Intelligent does have a complete range of emergency lighting luminaires which are supplied fitted with the PLU Module.  This range also includes the latest LED luminaire technology.

What emergency lights does Lux Intelligent work with?

Lux Intelligent can work with almost any type of light fitting.

To make a light suitable for the Lux Intelligent system, a low cost addressable PLU module needs to be incorporated in to the fitting.  This can be done by an end user, or the service can be provided by Advanced*.

There is also a large selection of Lux Intelligent emergency lights available with both fluorescent and LED light sources, all ready with the addressable module installed.
